Pediatric Neurosurgery Symposium 2018

June 14th / 15th, 2018 | Auditorium UKBB

  • June 14 2018: Pediatric Neurosurgery Symposium
  • June 15 2018: Hands on course on Pediatric Hydrocephalus and Intraventricular Pathologies including Endoscopy and Virtual 3D, for residents and interested attendees

Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to invite you to the second Pediatric Neurosurgery Symposium at the University Children’s Hospital in Basel (UKBB). Pediatric Neurosurgery is a growing subspecialty demanding a complex interdisciplinary infrastructure to deliver the best possible care for children with central nervous system pathologies. A continued education of specialists is therefore indispensable and we are happy to bring to you an exciting program for our second symposium. The main topics will cover important aspects of pediatric brain trauma including non accidental trauma and critical care management. In an era where imaging has become ubiquitous, incidental findings have significantly increased. Recent articles in the New England Journal of Medicine underline the interest and the difficulty in the management of newly discovered lesions. We look forward to discussing this topic with national and international experts. Spinal dysraphism (spina bifida) is one of the very complex developmental malformation in the pediatric population. Challenges and controversies in its management will be the topic of our third session and we look forward to interesting lectures and round table discussion on fetal surgery. We believe that the symposium on thursday June 14th should be appealing to neurosurgeons, pediatric specialists including surgeons, neuropediatricians, pediatric oncologist and any interested in pediatric medicine.

New to the program is a workshop and hands on course on pediatric hydrocephalus and endoscopic approaches to intraventricular pathologies. Participants can bring their challenging cases for expert discussion. Models to discuss valve fluid dynamics will be available and we are excited to incorporate the newest technology in 3D visualisation and virtual reality for case discussions.

Participation in the symposium, as well as food and beverages during the meeting, will be free of charge thanks to our generous sponsors.
We are looking forward to welcoming all of you to the University Children’s Hospital in Basel for what we hope will be a highly educational and collegial day devoted to pediatric neurosurgery.

Warm regards,
Prof. Dr. med. Raphael Guzman
Dr. med. Jehuda Soleman
