Short biography

PD Dr. med. Nicole Ritz is a clinician-scientist at the University Children's Hospital Basel (UKBB). She is a pediatrician and infectious diseases specialist trained in Switzerland, South Africa and Australia. She obtained her MD at the University of Berne investigating risk factors for bronchopulmonary aspergillosis in patients with cystic fibrosis and her PhD at the University of Melbourne investigating the immune response to the immunisation with different strains of BCG vaccine. After her return from Australia in 2011 she joined the UKBB and set-up the mycobacterial research laboratory. She received her habilitation (PD) in 2015 and joined the Pediatric Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics in the same year.

Her current research focuses on developing novel immunodiagnostic assays for children with tuberculosis and on biomarkers for the diagnosis of respiratory tract infections in children. She is also involved in a multidisciplinary study investigating influenza transmission in the City of Basel. Her research interest also includes novel applications for therapeutic drug monitoring in pediatrics.
