Social Counselling

The hospital stay of a child can often tear a family out of its normal daily routine. This can lead to difficult situations within the family. Families often have many questions, and face uncertainties and unexpected stress as the result of a child’s hospitalisation.

In such events, the social counselling staff are there for the affected families. The social counsellors support them and help them seek solutions to the challenges that arise.

Their Services

Social counselling includes the following services:

  • Counselling families as appropriate and by mutual agreement
  • Arranging and organising possibilities to relieve the burden on the family's everyday life.
  • Networking with external specialist bodies
  • Clarification of financing problems relating to the inpatient or outpatient stay of the children and/or adolescents
  • Providing assistance with additional costs incurred due to hospital treatment, which are a burden on the family budget.
  • Counselling in relation to social and insurance issues
  • Discharge planning / Transfer planning

Parent Network & Mediation

The parent network consists of an interdisciplinary specialist group from the Pediatric, Neuropediatric, Pediatric Surgery and Social Counselling Departments of the UKBB.

Here you will find descriptions of symptoms as well as access to parents' associations and self-help groups. What is the mediation part of this?
