The anaesthesiology department at UKBB treats children of all paediatric ages. This includes all surgical specialities, with the exception of interventional and surgical procedures on the heart, as well as paediatric specialities for diagnostic and interventional procedures.

The paediatric surgery department at the UKBB offers the complete training programme for paediatric surgeons. Further training contracts are awarded according to Curriculum A or B. The necessary rotations, the obligatory external year and the other contents of further training are offered in a structured manner within the respective curriculum. Fixed further and advanced training measures are permanently defined in everyday clinical practice. The spectrum of paediatric surgery is divided into various disciplines: General, visceral and thoracic, traumatological, urological, plastic and oncological surgery are intensively cared for in small, highly specialised teams, from diagnostics to surgical therapy and aftercare.

Student teaching is carried out very intensively in an interdisciplinary network with the faculty and at the UKBB, with the aim of acquiring committed young talent. Several times a year, local and national symposia and congresses are organised by the paediatric surgery department of the UKBB, thus guaranteeing up-to-date training.

Paediatric orthopaedics covers the entire conservative and surgical treatment of the musculoskeletal system in the case of congenital and acquired diseases, accidents (traumatology) and their consequences. Paediatric orthopaedics focuses on neuro-orthopaedics, spinal disorders, tumours of the musculoskeletal system, deformities, hand surgery and sports orthopaedics. Cooperation exists with over 20 centres and homes in Switzerland, as well as with the children's hospital in Lörrach, for example in the form of regular on-site consultations.

At the University Children's Hospital Basel (UKBB), we offer a wide range of training opportunities in paediatrics and adolescent medicine. Our programme promotes the development of practical skills and expertise through highly qualified mentors and innovative projects.

The paediatric radiology department uses all the latest imaging techniques (sonography, X-ray, fluoroscopy, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)) to treat outpatient and inpatient children from the prenatal period through to adulthood. Radiation protection is always a priority for us, as paediatric tissue is more sensitive to radiation than that of adults.

The entire range of services in all specialist areas of paediatrics and adolescent medicine, as well as paediatric surgery, is guaranteed. Special emphasis is placed on paediatric neuroradiology and orthopaedics, including sarcoma and soft tissue tumours. As a centre, we cooperate with many surrounding hospitals, for which secondary findings are prepared in interdisciplinary meetings.
