Paediatrics at the University Children's Hospital Basel (UKBB) is a recognised training centre for specialists in paediatrics and adolescent medicine. As a centre hospital, the UKBB offers the highest training authorisation of four years. A total of 40 positions for assistant doctors are offered.

The positions are primarily reserved for doctors who are aiming to become FMH specialists in paediatric and adolescent medicine. However, we always offer a limited number of positions for doctors who are in training for another specialist title, particularly in general internal medicine, paediatric surgery and child and adolescent psychiatry.

Further training programme

During their training, junior doctors rotate through the various departments at UKBB. The rotations last between four and six months, depending on the department. The training programme includes rotations in the following departments:

  • Neonatology (incl. puerperium, neonatal intensive care unit)
  • Paediatric intensive care unit
  • Oncology (ward and outpatient clinic)

The design of the individual training programme is based on the candidate's previous experience and professional goals as well as the needs of the clinic. The curriculum planning is discussed in person once a year with the person responsible for overall planning.
