Study programme: Dipl. Pflegefachfrau/Pflegefachmann HF - PEM field of work

As a qualified nurse (HF) in the PEM field of work, you will focus on the psychiatric care of children and adolescents. You are a key specialist in the interdisciplinary team and make a significant contribution to the comprehensive care of young patients with mental illnesses. Your work involves holistic care and support, working closely with doctors, therapists and other specialists to ensure optimal treatment. You not only accompany the patients, but also their families and carers and support them with empathetic and understanding communication.

In your role as a qualified nurse (HF) specialising in child and adolescent psychiatry, you will work both in acute care and in the long-term care of children and adolescents with mental health problems. You support patients in coping with their mental challenges, promote their resources and help them to develop strategies for everyday life. In addition to medical and nursing care, you will also provide emotional support, promote social interaction and work specifically to improve the mental stability of young patients.

Psychiatric care for children and adolescents focuses on the special needs of young patients. In addition to specialised knowledge in psychiatric care, your work also requires a high degree of empathy, patience and resilience. Dealing with challenging behaviour, crisis situations and individual developmental processes places particular demands on your professional and social skills.

During your training, you will gain comprehensive knowledge of mental health care, developmental psychology and therapeutic nursing interventions that will help you to provide the best possible care for young patients.

Your tasks as a qualified nurse HF in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry at UKBB:

• Care and support for mentally ill children and adolescents in various settings
• Observation, assessment and support of patients with mental illnesses such as anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders or trauma-related disorders
• Support in crisis situations and de-escalation strategies to ensure a stable and safe environment
• Promotion of social and emotional development through targeted therapeutic measures and group programmes
• Collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to create and implement customised treatment plans
• Counselling and support for caregivers to promote the patient's long-term recovery
• Documentation and evaluation of care processes as well as close cooperation with therapeutic specialists

In this responsible role, you are not only part of an interdisciplinary team, but also an important person of trust for the young patients and their families and carers. Your work requires a high level of expertise, mental resilience and the ability to act professionally and calmly in challenging situations.

• Completed secondary level 2 (specialised secondary school, high school diploma)
• Strong interest in paediatrics and the specialised care of children and adolescents, including children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders
• Enjoy dealing empathetically and professionally with paediatric patients and their caregivers, especially children and adolescents with mental illnesses
• High social competence, sense of responsibility and team spirit
• Commitment and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team in a dynamic environment, especially with specialists in child and adolescent psychiatry
• Ability and willingness to professionally accompany and support children and young people in challenging and stressful situations
• Willingness to work irregular hours (shifts and weekends)

Applications can only be submitted if there is a corresponding call for applications for the training programme. This is published one year before the start of the training programme.

• Attendance at an information event at the Basel-Stadt Health Education Centre (BzG)
• Online application
• Aptitude interview
• Aptitude assessment in practice through a two to four-day internship with self-assessment and external assessment
• Examination of the dossier and decision by the admissions committee at the BzG
• The employment contract (training company) and the training contract (BzG) will be issued after approval by the employing company and the admissions committee
