The University Children's Hospital Basel (UKBB) finally has a playroom again on its Ward B. Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, the Pro UKBB Foundation was able to open a new play and recreation room for young patients and their families on Monday, 25 November 2024.

The materials and colours of the room were deliberately chosen to be neutral in order to create a calming atmosphere. Moving elements and the wall design in the image of the foundation's mascot Boby add colourful accents and bring the room to life. The built-in kitchen fulfils the lively need of parents to be able to prepare something small in an uncomplicated and inexpensive way.
"We are delighted that we can make a contribution to improving the stay of young patients and their families with this new playroom. It is very important to us that the children feel comfortable here and can experience a bit of normality," says Nicole Herrmann, Managing Director of the Pro UKBB Foundation.
Previously, the newly remodelled room was used as a relaxation area. However, this offer no longer met current needs. On the other hand, a play and recreation room in the inpatient area was missing. At the beginning of the year, a refurbishment in favour of improved facilities for epilepsy and sleep patients meant that there was no longer a playroom on the third floor of Ward B. This gap has now finally been closed again.
