The «in SEA2 SpineBot» project aims to acquire in-vivo biomechanical data of functional spine units. It was reinitialized following a collaboration between the Institute for Surgical Technology and Biomechanics (ISTB) of the University of Bern and the University Children’s Hospital Basel (UKBB) in 2006. A new direction was launched in 2021, involving Prof. Georg Rauter and initial funding from the Christian Toggenburger Prize.
Felix Erb’s PhD project aims to construct an updated spinal measuring device incorporating serial elasticity for improved safety and reliability. Additionally, a pre-interventional planning tool for patient-specific robot motion is being developed to enhance the integration of biomechanical data in finite element simulations.
A prototype is being developed based on extensive requirement analysis. The team plans to complete a validation and feasibility study by 2025.
