The UKBB has the infrastructure to treat all hand injuries in emergencies as well as permanent complaints following accidents according to modern guidelines. In cooperation with the Clinic for Plastic, Reconstructive, Aesthetic and Hand Surgery at the University Hospital Basel, there is a 24-hour replantation service and a round-the-clock hand surgery specialist service.

Modern microsurgical, arthroscopic and plastic surgery and orthopaedic techniques - minimally invasive where possible - are used to treat injuries. A child-friendly environment is essential and helps to ensure good rehabilitation.

Hand malformations are rare overall and are a burden due to the possible effects on the children. The hand surgery team therefore accompanies families with affected children from the prenatal ultrasound to adulthood. Treatment is based on major international centres for paediatric hand malformations in London, Hamburg and Japan, with which there is regular exchange. From psychological support and prostheses to free toe transfers, all available techniques are used to enable the affected patients to enjoy the best possible quality of life and independence despite their hand malformation.

If necessary, treatment can also be carried out in adulthood by the same specialised team in the University Hospital Basel be continued.
