Paediatric palliative care

This page has been translated automatically.

Paediatric palliative care is the active, holistic treatment of children and adolescents with an advanced illness and a limited life expectancy. It aims to achieve the best possible quality of life and to accompany and support patients and their relatives during the phase of illness and the subsequent mourning phase.

Palliative care takes place in the place where the child feels most comfortable and where the necessary care and support can be offered in a suitable form. Wherever possible, the place of care should be chosen by the child and their family. Flexible transitions should be guaranteed. This means that care can be provided at home, in hospital or in other institutions.

Our sphere of activity

  • Extreme prematurity, heart defects, complex malformations and congenital diseases with symptoms shortly after birth.
  • Pre- and perinatal palliative care
  • Life-threatening diseases for which a cure is possible but uncertain (e.g. cancer, congenital heart defects).
  • Diseases with a limited life expectancy for which long-term treatment enables a normal life (e.g. muscle diseases).
  • Incurable diseases with severe disability and progressive progression (e.g. metabolic or neuromuscular diseases).
  • Incurable diseases or brain injuries with severe disabilities that can shorten life expectancy or lead to sudden death due to additional illnesses.

Our approach

We support children with complex or life-shortening illnesses and accompany the family where the child is at its best. Our goal is the best possible quality of life and networking of all those involved.
