Healthy control subjects (16 - 30 years) wanted

Longer-term neuropsychological and mental health development in young adults after childhood self-limiting epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes.

What is it about and what do we do?

We want to find out how young adults fare after self-limiting epilepsy with centro-temporal spikes (SeLECTS, formerly known as Rolando's epilepsy) in childhood. For this purpose, former patients and healthy controls in young adulthood are being examined. In addition to various neuropsychological procedures (to assess memory, processing speed, cognitive performance and attention), various questionnaires on brain health as well as a brain wave measurement (EEG) and a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the skull are also collected. All performance and measurements are compared between the groups to find out how former patients with SeLECTS have developed.

How long does it take and where does it take place?

The study takes place at the UKBB. The time required is 1-2 appointments on site plus a telephone conversation, totalling approx. 5 hours.

What do I get out of it?

Compensation of CHF 50 for participation and reimbursement of travel costs. In addition, there is the evaluation of the neuropsychological examination, if desired.

Who can take part?

Young, healthy adults between 16 and 30 years of age without neurological (current or history of) or severe psychiatric disorders and who are not pregnant during the duration of the study.
