Dear Colleagues,
It is a pleasure to invite you to the sixth Pediatric Neurosurgery Symposium at the University Children’s Hospital in Basel (UKBB). Continued medical education for residents and pediatric specialists is key to stay up to date with the latest developments and thoughts in the rare diseases we treat in our pediatric patients. The interdisciplinary discussion and exchange of knowledge is the foundation of best medical care. This year we will discuss highly relevant and also controversial topics. We will discuss basic concepts but also novel aspects in pediatric epilepsy surgery. This session will bring to you the latest thoughts on diagnosis, clinical decision-making and treatment options. Pediatric epilepsy surgery is a very complex topic, demanding extensive teams of specialists knowledgeable in manage¬ment and treatment protocols. An interdisciplinary approach in specialized clinics is key for best medical treatment. We will have a broad panel of specialists covering the most important aspects from neurosurgical, neurological, and radiological point of view. This session should be highly relevant for all physicians seeing those children. The session will be closed by a round table discussion with an expert panel allowing participants to ask their burning questions.
We are again proud to have world-renowned experts giving keynote lectures and specific talks on Thursday June 29th. We believe that the symposium should be appealing to all neurosurgeons, pediatric specialists including pediatricians, psychiatrists, pediatric surgeons and neurosurgeons, neuropediatricians, and anyone interested in pediatric medicine.
Friday June 30th will be a dedicated workshop mainly, but not only, for residents that will focus on the hydrocephalus shunt technology and ETV model with the help of 3D printed skulls and cadavers. We will also have breakout sessions with discussion of difficult epilepsy cases, understanding of current devices and new technologies in epilepsy treatment, as well as case discussions using multiuser full immersion Virtual Reality.
Participation in the symposium, as well as food and beverages during the meeting, will be free of charge thanks to our generous sponsors.
We are looking forward to welcoming all of you to the University Children’s Hospital in Basel for what we hope will be a highly educational and collegial day devoted to broadening your and our knowledge in Pediatric Neurosurgery.
Warm regards,
Prof. Raphael Guzman, Chief Pediatric Neurosurgery
PD Jehuda Soleman, Deputy Chief Pediatric Neurosurgery
