Ward C | Haematology-oncology ward with day and outpatient clinic

This page has been automatically translated.

The University Paediatric Haematology and Oncology Centre for North-West Switzerland is run by the University Children’s Hospital of Both Basel (UKBB) in close cooperation with the Children’s Hospital at Aarau Cantonal Hospital (KSA) managed across multiple sites. Together, we ensure comprehensive, specialised care for children and young people with haematological and oncological conditions.

On Ward C at the UKBB, we care for our patients with expertise and great empathy. An interprofessional team comprising doctors, nurses and therapists works closely together to ensure the best possible treatment and support during this challenging time.

The ward has five single rooms, as well as an isolation area with three further single rooms. One parent can stay with their child throughout their stay and sleep in the same room. In this way, we create the most familiar and supportive environment possible for our young patients and their families.

Insights into the station

We would like to introduce you to our ward so that you can gain an insight into our lovingly designed environment. We have put together a picture gallery to help you feel at home before your visit.

Haematological-oncological day clinic

In the haematological oncology day clinic with four beds, we offer day-case continuation of treatment for oncological diseases with continuation of chemotherapy, antibiotic therapy and administration of blood products. We can also perform necessary procedures such as bone marrow punctures and lumbar punctures under sedation on a day-case basis.

Polyclinic

Haematological diseases such as coagulation disorders and thrombosis tendencies are diagnosed in the outpatient clinic and treated if necessary. The follow-up care of patients following a stem cell transplant also takes place in our haematology-oncology outpatient clinic.

Visiting possibilities

Parents can be with their child at all times. A maximum of 3 visitors per patient is permitted. Parents are included. Visiting times are from 1.30 pm to 7 pm.

As our patients have a reduced defence against infection, visitors with an infectious disease are not allowed to enter the ward.
Infectious diseases include, for example: Cough, fever, sore throat and earache, colds, cold sores, eye infections, vomiting and diarrhoea. If the parents are ill, the best solution for the patient is sought in consultation with the nursing staff.

For security reasons, the entrance door to Ward C is closed daily from 6 pm. A door badge is therefore available to parents for each patient room. This can be requested from the responsible carer on admission and must be returned before leaving.

Hygiene

Visitors must sanitise their hands when entering the ward and patient rooms. Cut flowers and other plants are prohibited on Ward C. In addition, no open food or fruit may be stored in the room.
