Visiting & Overnight Stay

Visiting possibilities

Parents can be with their child around the clock. In most departments, a parent can stay overnight in the child's room if desired.

For the benefit of the patients, further visits are possible on a limited basis from 1.30 pm to 7 pm. In principle, the following visiting rules apply:

  • Emergencies and appointments: Maximum of two accompanying persons
  • Patient rooms: Maximum of three visitors per patient at the same time.

Please note that children also count as visitors and that special visiting rules apply in special areas. Exceptions are possible in certain situations and after consultation with the staff in charge.

Separate visiting rules for special areas

Recovery room

In the recovery room, 1 adult person can be present at a time. Taking turns is possible if necessary.

Paediatric intensive care unit (ICU)

Visits are only possible for parents, grandparents and siblings (maximum 2 visitors at the same time). Parents can be with their child at any time. Visiting hours for grandparents and siblings are from 2 to 6 pm.

Neonatal intensive care unit

Visits are only possible for parents, grandparents and siblings (maximum 2 visitors at the same time). Parents can be with their child at any time. Visiting hours for grandparents and siblings are from 2 to 6 pm.

Ward A3

Maximum 3 visitors at the same time. Visiting hours are from 2 pm to 8 pm (parents until 9 pm). Visits are not possible during therapy and mealtimes.

Ward C

Visits must be arranged individually with the staff in charge.

Visitors must not be ill themselves. This means, for example, that they must be free of coughs, fevers, sore throats and ears, colds, cold sores, eye infections, vomiting and diarrhoea.

If the parents are ill, the best solution for the patients is sought in consultation with the nursing staff.

Day clinic

A maximum of 2 adults may accompany a child to the day clinic. Unfortunately, siblings are not allowed in the day clinic.

Parents staying overnight

Studies have shown that having parents close to their sick child is very beneficial for the healing process. In support of this, the UKBB makes it possible for one parent to stay overnight in their child’s room free of charge.

At the recommendation of the UKBB, the Ronald McDonald Foundation provides accommodation to parents and siblings of sickchildren on extended stay in hospital. The nursing staff and the doctors will be delighted to support those interested in reserving a room.

Patient rooms

The UKBB has a total of over 100 patient beds available in the Children's Hospital on Spitalstrasse and in the Department for Premature Babies at the Gynaecological Clinic. UKBB offers single bed and double bed rooms. Whenever possible, children who are privately insured are accommodated in single-bed rooms. Sometimes medical reasons make accommodation in a single room imperative.

All rooms face the inner courtyard and are equipped with two beds and a bathroom.
