As a highly specialised central hospital, the UKBB treats patients far beyond the Basel conurbation. A quick and safe journey must be guaranteed for everyone. This also applies to patients and relatives from regions with less than perfect public transport connections to the UKBB.

Short distances are crucial for good medical care. Not only in emergencies, but also for families of children who live with serious health impairments and frequently have to go to hospital. These families need sufficient parking spaces that are as close as possible to the hospital and offer enough space for loading and unloading pushchairs and wheelchairs.

In order to guarantee round-the-clock medical care with the best possible specialists, UKBB recruits staff from all over Switzerland, France and Germany. With the hospital car park, all employees can get to their place of work safely and quickly, even at night or in emergencies.

The hospital car park will improve the quality of life for local residents. 50 parking spaces that do not comply with zoning regulations will be removed and replaced by 30 underground spaces. Search traffic will be reduced and space will be freed up for more green areas. Pupils at the St. Johann primary school and children in the neighbourhood in particular will benefit from the planned redesign by the canton.
