Discharge

Parents receive detailed information – either from the doctor or the relevant nursing staff – concerning the intended date of discharge, including the necessary formalities and any follow-up controls. If required, they also receive information sheets with details on how to care for the child in the first days after discharge. If parents come to collect their child by car, then an adult – other than the driver – should come with them to look after the child on the journey home.

The Bill

In normal cases, the hospital stay is paid by the health insurance provider or the disability insurance. Extraneous charges related to telephone use in the patient’s room and additional meals for parents, the UKBB will bill the family directly.

Insurance Questions

Please keep in mind that you will need to discuss the allocation of costs with your health insurance provider prior to your child’s hospital stay, except in emergency cases. In the case that cost-allocation is not previously arranged, or parents are paying out-of-pocket, the UKBB will require a deposit or advance payment. Please bring confirmation from your insurance provider at the time of admittance.

For questions relating to insurance or the financing of the hospital stay of your child, parents can contact the Inpatient Admission Office (T +41 61 704 15 09/10) or the Social Counselling Service (T+ 41 61 704 12 38). More information on costs and insurance is available under: Admittance & Registration.
