Prof. Dr Julia Bielicki is Professor of Paediatric Clinical Pharmacology and currently works both at UKBB and at City St George's, University of London. In Basel, she heads the Paediatric Research Centre and is Head of the Department of Infectiology and Vaccinology.
Julia Bielicki studied medicine as well as social and political sciences at the University of Cambridge. She obtained her medical doctorate from the University of Zurich in 2006 and specialist qualifications in paediatrics and adolescent medicine in 2009 and infectiology in 2017. She completed a master's degree at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and obtained a PhD in public health. In the same year, she habilitated at the University of Basel with a focus on antibiotic prescribing and antimicrobial resistance in neonatology and paediatrics.
Her research focuses on international, multi-centre intervention studies in paediatric clinical pharmacology with a focus on antibiotic therapy. As a researcher and clinician, she is dedicated to the optimal use of antibiotics in the treatment of infectious diseases in neonates and children. The aim of her work is to develop effective strategies for the evidence-based use of antibiotics in order to sustainably improve the care of children with infectious diseases worldwide.
