The protection of children and young people is a key priority for the UKBB. The interdisciplinary child protection group supports the clinical teams in matters relating to children’s welfare and brings together specialists from paediatrics, surgery, child and adolescent psychiatry, nursing and social work.

It works closely with specialist agencies, public authorities and the Institute of Forensic Medicine. Where necessary, the Child Protection Group assesses situations of risk and provides support in implementing appropriate protective measures. It is also involved in the continuing professional development of staff, thereby promoting a high level of awareness of child protection issues throughout the hospital.

  • Regular organisation of further education and training events
  • Networking and cooperation with child protection groups at other paediatric clinics and with cantonal and national agencies and offices
  • Collection of statistical data on child abuse
  • Participation in the national child protection statistics
  • Supervision of master's and doctoral theses
