Basel donates carnival lighting to the children's hospital

At the beginning of the year, the UKBB launched an appealAnyone who finds old «Stäggeladäärne» at home should hand them in at reception in the children's hospital. The UKBB would like to place them on the loggias to decorate the building for carnival.

We were looking for lanterns that the UKBB could keep. This is because wiring and installing the lanterns is a lot of work for the building services. UKBB had already experienced this in 2012. After moving into the then new building, it equipped the loggias with borrowed lanterns for the first time.

Dismantling the borrowed lanterns also cost the building services many hours of hard work at the time. And so, despite the great joy of the beautiful lanterns, the UKBB had to do without carnival lighting for several years. Until the brilliant idea came about with the appeal for donations.

Two dozen lanterns received

As we all know, no carnival reveller gives up their precious «Stäggeladäärne» lightly. It was therefore all the more pleasing for the UKBB to see over 1000 people sharing the appeal in their network and the first lanterns arriving at the reception soon afterwards.

Just a few days before the building services wanted to switch on the carnival lighting, only four lanterns were missing to decorate all the loggias with three to four lanterns each. Thanks to a second call and another huge willingness to help on Facebook, Mrs Fasnacht finally pulled off her little pre-Christmas miracle: a good two dozen «Stäggeladäärne» found their way into the UKBB. Enough to really bathe all the loggias in a cheerful and colourful carnival light.

This wonderful gesture should make many a child's eyes light up. And the best thing is: whoever passes by the children's hospital these days can share their joy with all these children.
