Cooperation departments UKBB / USB internal

The Pediatric Research Center is centrally located in the UKBB. This allows networking with all areas of the hospital and close efficient collaboration with all departments of the hospital. If necessary, areas and departments of the University Hospital Basel (USB) can be called in. We gladly and successfully cooperate with the hospital pharmacy, the laboratory and the DKF.

History

Within the framework of the Eckenstein-Geigy Professorship for Pediatric Pharmacology, the first infrastructural elements for clinical research at UKBB were developed in the first months of 2016. In summer 2016, the "Ambulatory Study Center (ASZ)" started its work under the joint leadership of Prof. Johannes van den Anker and Dr. Julia Bielicki and in close collaboration with the Department of Clinical Research at the University Hospital Basel. In the first years, the work of the ASZ focused on the research and development of drugs for neonates, infants, children and adolescents within the framework of the Professorship of Pediatric Pharmacology.

With the adoption of activities within the research network SwissPedNet, the spectrum of the center's tasks expanded. Since 2018, the spectrum of competencies has been continuously expanded in parallel with the needs identified by the researchers and the research management at the UKBB, and the participation of the UKBB in international research projects has been made possible. In summer 2021, the ASZ became the UKBB Pediatric Research Center (PRC).

Quality

The PRC is subject to the regulatory and legal requirements for conducting clinical trials. The processes of clinical studies are defined and standardized by an own quality management system (QMS) and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The PRC uses the web application "orca" of the DKF, there the processes are presented, trained and managed by quality managers. The documents are available to the study team members in the system. Training certificates can be recorded individually in the system and serve as proof that study team members have the necessary knowledge to use the PRC. In the event of an audit, e.g. by Swissmedic or the Ethics Committee, the QMS serves as a quality control instrument.
